Show I Students to Contest For $850 in Prizes Tle high school students of Utah will compete again this year in the Michael J. Dowling Award for 1947. The Michael 3: Dowling contest con-test is for the purpose of designing de-signing the 1949 Easter seal of the Rational Society for Crippled' Crip-pled' Children and Adults, Inc., and is sponsored by the Utah Society for the Physically Handicapped, Han-dicapped, Inc. It is a- national contest commemorating an American, who, despite severe handicaps, rose to a high place' in his community and state. Ca-Awards Cash prizes will be awarded the four winners for Utah, and they will compete with 44 other state societies for the national awards of S5fl0 first prize, S200 second prize, $100 third prize and S50 fourth place, j High school principals and art teachers throughout the state I have received material and con-J con-J test instructions. The contest j has the approval of the National i Association of Secondary School Principals. The motif of the design de-sign must show a crippled child and include the words: "for crippled crip-pled children" or "help crippled children." The use of color and . design are highly important. Mnrrh 13 Deadline Entries must be in by March 15, to the Utah Society headquarters, head-quarters, 108 Regent St., where they will be judged, and the winning entriw sent to National Contest Headquarters for final judging April 15. Last year the winners of the Utah contest were: Roger A. Sorensen, first place. Gunnison: Alan Ovenden, West High. Salt Lake, -second place; Byrd Bartholomew, Fayette, Fay-ette, third place. |
