Show U. S. Birth Rate at High Of 20.5 Per Thousand WASHINGTON. The stork dodged combat planes to bring to the United States this year this country's all-time all-time record number of babies. The U. S. census bureau reported that the birth rate for the first 10 months of the year was 20.5 per thousand of population, as compared with 18.9 in 1941. The birth rate ha,s been rising since 1934. The year previous to that one of the worst in the depression de-pression era it had dropped to 16.6, lowest point in a 100-year decline. |
