Show Should City Extend Borders IT LOOKS like the city is ready to annex some more county land, and it looks like many county residents are ready (and anxious) for that move. The general area which seems to be drifting toward city annexation is from Highland Drive east to the mountains, and from the present city-county line south to 33rd South. This is an area which is now heavily populated. Mpny of its residents rejected the proposal for a county sewer two years ago, and they realize now that they need a sewer system. However, no county resident is going to stick his neck out on the sewer issue again, and so there is a gradual awakening in favor of the city taking over. The city school board has been alert to the need for adequate ade-quate school areas in case annexation does occur. The board members are to be commended on this move because the land is rapidly being gobbled up by subdivision promoters and would -be home builders. Then too, if the annexation doesn't happen, the Granite School district would probably want to buy the school sites owned by the city board. If annexation is to take place, the time is ripe for it now. Host of the roads in the area described above are still "country "coun-try roads." A sewer system could be installed now by the city much cheaper than it could tie done later when the roads are improved and hard-surfaced. There are many advantages to come from immediate study of this proposal by citizens concerned and government officials. |
