Show around the COR ' , N SUGAR HOUSE E With the Editor J 4 We can't help smrling when we see Charlie Larson walking around in civvies ... as he has been for the past 10 days. And we don't get1 a bang out of it because the local police chief doesn't look OK. He does . . . right snappy. What makes us smile is the way he reacts to "everybody in town" wanting to know what the matter is. "It's getting where a man can't even put on his Sunday suit, but what everybody thinks something's some-thing's screwy." We fell right into line with the rest of the townsfolk and asked Charlie what was up. He explained that a week ago Monday Mon-day his wife wanted him to attend a funeral in the afternoon, after-noon, so he decided to wear his suit ... a natural enough thing to do. It felt so good to go around in civvies all day on a week day he decided to leave them on the next day. And so it went. In the meantime he has had his snappy uniform jacket refurbished. One of these days he'll be back in uniform, but while the spirit is with him, the lieutenant is enjoying his clothes vacation. This morning our pride and joy in the secretarial dept., Miss Susan Shepheard, left for Vermont Ver-mont where she will complete her freshman year at Bennington Benning-ton College.. Since the middle of January Miss Shepheard has been holding down the position of secretary-reporter-telephone operator-filer-in-chief and all-around all-around helper here at The Bulletin. Bul-letin. She was here on leave of absence from Bennington, completing com-pleting a vital part of the girl school's curriculum: the "non resident" term rim-int thio term the girls are away from college, on their own. They are advised to find employment in the type of work which most interests them. Susan chose journalism and landed here. In her weeks with us she has conducted a number of reader-interest reader-interest polls. Through her work we learned that Sugar House people were much divided divid-ed in their opinions as to how to spell same: Sugar House or Sugarhouse. We also learned that the local fashion experts found Sugar House women style conscious, if a little on the conservative con-servative side. On the poll she took of local political tastes we learned that most of 100 polled were Democratic in their party leanings, favoring President Truman and Attorney General Giles in the coming elections. We're sorry to lose her She's been a grand help. |
