Show Chamber Hears Discussion On Local Traffic Problems Telling Sugar House Chamber of Commerce member? that, i "Parking is the number one traffic problem in Salt Lake as well as in your community." Sgt. F. Clark Sanford. city traffic head, was the main speaker at the regular monthly meeting of the Chamber Tuesday at Weasku Inn. "This is a nation on wheels." said Sgt. Sanford. "In 1044 there were 33 million cars on the road. And as soon as production produc-tion meets demand it is predicted that there will be GO million on our streets. With traffic problems today greater than they ever were., what will it be like with twice the number of automobiles? auto-mobiles? That is your problem as well as ours.' What are you ' going to do?" Developing tnis theme, Sgt. Sanrord listed several improve-I improve-I ments that the people of Sugar House should consider seriously. Commending the Chamber for their work on street lighting, he added that street widening, letter let-ter use of the improvements in the parking facilities available, and further cooperation of businessmen busi-nessmen and shoppers alike in the congested traffic areas should be brought to the attention atten-tion of all. Concluding his remarks, Sgt. Sanford then turned the time over to an open forum on the particular traffic problems in this area. A lively discussion was held, at which time Chief of Police L. C. Crowther, local chief Lt. Charles J. Larson and a number of Chamber members participated. The meeting was presided over by president Sam J. Nich-oles. Nich-oles.
