Show Utah Symphony Prepares For Greatest Season Throughout America the greatest symphony orchestras have been faced with increasingly increas-ingly difficult problems of a financial fi-nancial nature. Utah has had its difficulties, but the worst is over. The Utah Symphony has survived. It has not only survived sur-vived it has built plans for i's most brilliant season in this, its tenth year, with a program of nine grand subscription concerts, con-certs, starting November 30. The 1949-50 concert season for the Utah Symphony will provide pro-vide music lovers of the state (Continued on Page 3) of good seats. Big savings are offered season ticket buyers. Appearing with the Utah Symphony in subscription concerts con-certs will be the famed Arthur Rubinstein, hailed by many critics as "the finest pianist in the world." Natha Milstein, "the Master Violinist"; Corinne La-comble, La-comble, pianist, and Frances Magnes, violinist, also scheduled to present their artistry along with the combined choruses of the University of Utah. The orchestra, under the direction di-rection of its conductor, Maurice Maur-ice Abravanel, has improved steadily and is expected to reach new heights of perfection this season. The 1949-50 series will coordinate and blend the classic masterpieces with the truly important im-portant works of contemporary composers, forming balanced programs representing the best in music from the past and the most significant of the present day. Eight of the nine subscription concerts will be staged at the Salt Lake Tabernacle; the other will be at Utah's Kingsbury Hall on December9-10. The combined unfiversity choruses and the symphony will present Verdi's Requiem at the Kingsbury Kings-bury concert. Dates for the other subscription sub-scription concerts at the Tabernacle Tab-ernacle are: Wednesday, November No-vember 30; Wednesday, December Decem-ber 28; Tuesday, January 10; Wednesday, January 25; Wednesday, Wed-nesday, February 8; Saturday, March 11, and Saturday, March 25. In addition the Utah Symphony Sym-phony will make appearances in all parts of the state. Dates and locations will be annouced later. Tickets for the symphony series se-ries go on sale next week, and music lovers are urged to send in orders promptly to be assured |
