Show For Cleanup; Birthday Events Sugar House Charts Plans Sugar House looked ahead to one of the busiest weeks in its ' history beginning Monday, April 21, according to Neisen R. Bank, president of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce. Beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, chamber members will turn out en masse weather permitting for the community's annual clean-up day, which was postponed from Thursday, April 17, because be-cause of wet ground from previous rains. The affair will be under the direction of Grant Midgley ' and a committee of seven. Mrs. Marian Dunkie will be in charge of refreshments for the weary workers, Mr. Midgley said. The five parking lot captains are: Allen Seegmiller, Ben Vincent, Richard Madsen III, Fred Griep and Warren Ottley. A new wrinkle to the cleanup clean-up is being added this year to cooperate with the defense effort ef-fort in the form of a scrap drive. Mel Summcrhays will head this important project, Mr. Midgley said. BAND CONCERT Next on the agenda, according accord-ing to Mr. Bank, is a band concert con-cert from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, I April 22, by the "largest band in the world," the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce band, under un-der the direction of Arnold Bur-gener. Bur-gener. The band concert will lie the first event of Founders' Day, which will be celebrated Wednesday. April 23. A "kickoff" for Founders' Day will be held Wednesday morning at 7:45, when Sugarites will rally 'round the breaOsfast tables at Beau Brummel Restaurant, Res-taurant, 3100 Highland Drive. All chamber members are invited in-vited to attend and several prominent prom-inent guests wil be there. Sugar House received its famous name April 23, 1859, and this event will be noted at the breakfast. DISPLAY OF PLANS Also on Wednesday there will be opened for the public a large display of sketches and plans drawn by advance architectural students of the University of Utah depicting Sugar House 25 years hence. The display will be in the south board room of the Sprague Library, and will feature a scale model of the community as it will look in 1977. |
