Show Horse Show Whopping Success With a gross proceeds ' of $5,000 tuekedaway, the second annual East Mill Creek Lions Club horse show, held for the benefit of the Utah Division, J. A. American Cancer Society, chalked chalk-ed up another successful benefit last week end. Although curtailed somewhat by the weather, chairmen uf the event stated the annual show had gone "over the top." Principal credit for the two-way two-way promotion ;;oes to out gong go-ng Pres. Sam Taylor of the East Mill Creek Lions and Earl Johnson, present president of the club. The entire ' membership member-ship of the club worked on various var-ious committees to make the event the success it was. The estimate of $5,000 gross was made by N. M. Thompsen who reported that some 80 odd members of the club still had to finish reporting on total sales Over 1,500 people witnessed the culminating event of the show on Saturday night at the Mt. Olympus stables owned by Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Strong. Outstanding horse of the show was Wallace P Bennett's chestnut gelding, Conquistador. Bennett's horse took first in the open five-gaited stake. Leading the jumper's class was Lowell G. Palmquist's Blue Boy. He placed first in this event and also gave a repeat performance with a four and a half foot jump. A Springvile entry owned by Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Grant took the ladies' fine harness event to place first in that event. The horse, Stardust Lady, was driven driv-en by Mrs. Walter Reed. Relee Royal, driven by Mrs. Grant, came in second. The pony event was finally divided into two events by Judge Arthur G. Woolley to reach a decision. In the large pony event, Major Hoople, ridden rid-den by Betty Jean Clark, came in first. Second place went to Smokey, ridden by David Wolf The second division, Shetland ponies, was won by Peanuts, ridden by Ellen Adams of Cen-terville. Cen-terville. Second place went to Beauty, ridden by Sammy Taylor Tay-lor while third was awarded to Prince, topped by Doris White. The novice five-gaited class was won by - Utah Sweetheart, owned and ridden by C. S. Dahl, representing the Davis County sheriff's posse. Ladies five-gaited event was won by The Bishop, owned by Mr. and Mrs. L. Flint of Salt Lake ridden by .Mrs. David Wolf. In the three-gaited combination combina-tion 'class, Stonewall's Corsair, owned by John Morrison and ridden by Jack Marshall, placed first. |
