Show BOWLING In spite of the war and rumors of war, the league continues to slam the pins at the Southeast in good mid-season style. Starting with last week's Forest Ladies we find the Elm team having 2076 for high series, and Poplar with 782 for high game, and both of these teams are now in the headlines. Iva Burnett again rolled rol-led a nice 540 for high individual, and Mary Hickan had high game of 189.Madge Garton had 528 for the only other 500 series. Sparked by Joe Barney's pretty 678, Deseret Lumber took 3 to climb to a tie with Barnett and Weiss at the top of the Southside league. Camera Centre with Hugo Ensign's 643 had 2782 for- high series, while Bingham Merchants with 980 tied Barnett and Weiss for high game. Frank Swenson rolled the high single game, 246. Nordberg's team took 3 last week and is serving notice that they don't intend to stay in the cellar position much longer. A big crowd gathered at the Southeast after the Southside league last week fo watch the exhibition bowling of Ed Wow-alics. Wow-alics. match play and A. B. C. champion. C. P. Andersen furnished furn-ished the competition and a very satisfactory match. The next day Kowalies and Joe Barney left for Chicago and the big invitational match tournament, carrying with them the good wishes of the crowd. Bolstered by Joe Barney's excellent ex-cellent 632 series, Gardiner's Market Mar-ket came through with 2674 for high series in the Southeast league lea-gue last week. However, Holsum Bakers burned up the alleys for one game of 1037, including Bill Dyke's' shining 255. Bill and Joe were crowned by R. Powers who had a 253 game and a 630 series for the N. O. Nelson team. V Granite Mill started their series ser-ies last Friday in the Lumbermen's Lumber-men's league with a roaring 1042 and finished with 2649 for high series. Tom Gore looked like a good bet for high individual scores, scor-es, but he was called away before the third game and Sid Eliason and R. Sundberg of the opposing U. S. Gypsum team took the honors. hon-ors. Sid had 597 for series, and Ross rolled a pretty 253 game. Incidentlly, it was a baby girl at Tom's house. On' the Cardinal Ladies league last,' Friday the Utah Drugless Health Clinic again had high series ser-ies and game with 2226 and 786, with Ethel Davis rolling 519 for high individual. In spite of worry over her father's serious illness Rae Engelke rolled 203 for high game. The Clinic is moving steadily stead-ily toward top place where South east Bowling Courts is holding a slender 3 point lead. A friendly game between the Truckerettes of the Cardinal Ladies Lad-ies league and the Orange Transportation Trans-portation team of Twin Falls attracted at-tracted quite gallery at the alleys Sunday afternoon. Although the Truckerettes lost to the visitors who top their home league, some nice bowling was exhibited and it was fun for everybody. every-body. A grudge match featured the Sugar House Major league this week with Sugar House Merc meeting the Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl gathered all its forces rolled 2748 series. 967 game, and took 4 points to tie the Sugar House Merc for the top spot in the league. They can't rest now, however, for Sugar House Coal in third place is only 1 point behind be-hind the leaders. Lyle Ruff had 627 for the night's high individual individ-ual series, and Ed Fortress bowled bowl-ed 241 for high single game. |
