Show school of theology. Comparing statictics on the -lost books with other university librararies, they discovered that the largest number num-ber of books lost annually from the University of Chicago library were Bibles from the Divinity school. UNIVERSITY NOTES THE PRESIDENT'S FAREWELL A reluctant goodby to the 20 years of Dr. George Thomas' presidency of ttie University of Utah will be said by the faculty regents, and student body on November Nov-ember 10. A banquet and reception followed follow-ed by a dance, will be given in theUniversity Building in honor of the retiring president. It will close the activities of Dr. Thomas last day in office. Dr. LeRoy E. Cowles, newly-appointed president, presi-dent, will assume office on Nov-12. Nov-12. Guests at the banquet will include in-clude prominent Utah educators, civic leaders, and University alumni. al-umni. Students will gather later in the evening to exchange greetings greet-ings with Dr. Thomas, and a dance for faculty members, friends, and students will complete the evenings even-ings entertainment. Although terminating his years as University president on November Novem-ber 10, Dr. Thomas will continue his services to the school as president pres-ident emeritus. In that capacity he will maintain an office on the campus and act as advisor to incoming in-coming president Cowles. Dr. Thomas' career in education educa-tion began in 1898. Since that time he has taught at the State Agricultural College and at the University, and has served as principal of Ogden High School, as state superintendent of public instruction, and as president of the Federal Land Bank of California. Cali-fornia. He has been active in civic civ-ic organizations during most of : his career. ! PLAYING THE STOCK MARKET 'Playing the stock market" is a game played in dead earnest on Wall Street. It is hardly less serious to University of Utah business bus-iness students, who study it as a science. In one class each student is "given" S-,000. at the beginning dr the school year to "invest" as I sees fit. He keeps a record of the progress of the stocks and bonds in which he has invested his imaginary sum, buying and( selling as it seems wise to him, j by following stock market reports in the daily newspapers. Tf students are fairly good brokers brok-ers they usually end the vcar with about the same amount of "money" with which they started.
