Whether America is at peace or at war the job of the mining industry indus-try of Utah is of high importance to the welfare of the people. The job is primarily to take the minerals from the earth and convert con-vert them into the product which is sent to refining and fabricating plants in the great manufacturing centers and made into pigments and metallic goods which are used in a thousand and one things that America needs. America needs these metals for war now and the state is proud that it is in a position to provide such a large percentage of what she heeds to prosecute the war. From a small beginning in about 1S54, mining in Utah has grown steadily until today this state harbours har-bours the world's largest non-fer-K)us mining and smelting center. Prior to the war and the influx of numerous war industries into the state, the mining industry supported sup-ported directly and indirectly nearly near-ly one half the population. While the principal producing districts today are Bingham Park City, Tintic and Dry Canyon, there are other important mines and districts dis-tricts scattered throughout the state. These mines are the principal prin-cipal support of large smelting smelt-ing plants located in and near Salt Lake valley. These plants also receive and reduce ores originating in all parts of the west. At times ores and concentrates are shipped to Utah from foreign countries for treatment. The future of Utah is much the future of mining and the development develop-ment of the state's wealth of non-metallic non-metallic and metallic resources |
