Show THIS, THAT AND THE OTHER (Continued from page 1) to see the island of Japan bombed from one end to the other, laying' waste all the works of man, whether they were of military value or otherwise, if anyone got in the way, well, it would be just their hard luck. Laying waste the homeland of that pugnacious people peo-ple would have the tendency to draw the troops from the lands which the Nipponese think they have won. Gasoline for the running of cars in the West is a by-product of the , manufacture of high octane gas for the aviators. The army looks to the oil fields and refineries of the West for its life blood, yet some of these narrow minded senators sen-ators and congressmen in the east are advocating .nation-wide restrictions re-strictions on the sale of gas. Cut down the sale of gas more than it is in this part of the country and yell for more 100 per cent gas for airplanes means dumping barrels of lower grade gasoline because someone is narrow minded mind-ed enough to deprive this part of the nation the right to purchase gasoline. The government is always al-ways preaching "stop waste", yet if the lower grades of gasoline gaso-line is not put on the market there will be waste, and lots of it. Think this matter over before placing restrictions on the car-driving car-driving public of the oil regions. We said last week that the weeds on 21st South should be cut before seeds ripened. Well, here's another argument for weed eradication. eradi-cation. Every summer there are lots of grasshoppers, cutting of the weeds would materially lessen less-en the breading places of these pests and in this way would tend to lessen the yearly crop of verdure ver-dure detroying vermin. . Street Commissioner Matheson should get busy. The young mothers of 20th East have founded a neighborhood club which allows them to do their Red Cross work at home, rather than make a tiresome trip downtown down-town to meet with the parent or. ganization. They hold their meetings, meet-ings, do their work, and yet stay in their own neighborhood with their children. Last week they met at the home of Mrs. Leon Fehrner and their next will be held at the home of Mrs. T. H. Barton, We understand that the husbands are to be invited. m |
