Mel Andrus, last year's winning driver, and Mark Drazich both had trouble in the "A" Main and had to drop out. Alma Facer came in first, and the "old man" himself, Pappy Gates, came in second. Mark Drazich took first in the Trophy Dash again, followed by Fred Sorensen. In the Semi -- main. Junior Spieker took first and Keith Chipman second. In addition to the regular program, there was a demolition derby in which Ray Watkins and Bob Taylor tied for first. Mel Anarus is still in first place in the point standings with 90 points, Drazich's in sec-ond place with 74, and Gates with 62 points is in third place. These are the number of points each driver has received so far this season. Next Saturday night there will be a 50-l- ap "A" Main event which is 20 laps more than usual. him. He stands out en the track whenever he is waving the flag. At both corners there is a judge stationed during the main race's to watch mainly for cars running two wheels off the edge of the track on the inside. It is illegal to do this when driving in a race unless the driver is avoiding a wreck. If the drivers run both wheels off the track, and gain a position while doing so, the judges have the pri-vilege to put him back one place in the final standings; so if one of the drivers, for instance, does gain a position this way, and comes in first, the judges may give him second place instead. drivers when they have one lap left, and show the drivers when they have finished the race. He does theis by means of 6 different colored flags. White means to leave the track, red to stop driving altogether, yellow to slow down and drive with caut-ion, blue means one lap to go, and the green flag means "go man, go"! Besides Rose, there is another flagman across the trackfromhim who does the same as he does, warning the cars. Also, they have lights above the track at the be-ginning of each curve with red, yellow, and green lights for added warning to the driver. The Flagman has a dangerous job because when he is starting the cars, they gave taken one lap on the track all ready, and since he often starts them when they come out of the turn, they are go-ing 70-7- 5 mph when they reach Track Safety Big Job Of Flagman The flagmen at the Stock Car Races have one of the most im-portant, and the most dangerous jobs at the track. Paul Rose is the main flagman, and it is his job to start the cars, tell cars when to leave the track, warn cars of obstructions (such as a wreck) on the track ahead, tell PATRONIZE OUR ADVERTISER5 (men's or lady's rings) yjSi Vz Karat diamond solitaire im f$L t 3 perfect, AAA--1 (Jm W. blue white stone. htS (retail value: $300) J- --2 Anyone can win JiffmPl ...nothing to fl A 'VI'i t buy, just drive f JMi, W in at any Stinker J f 4u&&tP'JlV Station and let ( jjfrfe 'li the attendant I i 7I?'JTV I'll write down your V 1 '"j V IjfcJ' ' LUCKY LICENSE "XVX XTf V ( number. r Jrll K'1 vAli NEW CONTEST EVERY 10 DAYS Another Business x m.
