MISS' MARJORIE KAREN GRAY haired bride-to-b- e chose a gold linen sheath dress with white ac-cessories. Miss Gray has attended Brigham Young University and the Uni-versity of Utah. She is a secretary in her grandfather's office. The wedding ceremony will be recited at the home of the bride-elect- 's parents and will be followed by a reception. Attending the bride will be Miss Joyce Hollberg, Miss Jacque-line Plewe, Miss Evelyn Smith and Miss Nancy Lynn Gray, sister of the bride-to-b- e. News of the engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Marjorie Karen Gray to David Thomas Longden, was made known at a lovely luncheon Saturday at the spacious home of the bride-elect- 's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas G. Morgan, 2490 Olympus Drive, Making the announcement were the bride-elect- 's parents. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Gray, 2016 Aldo Circle. "Love at First Sight" was the theme of the luncheon. Tiny cards with pictures of the future bride and bridegroom as children with the words, "Dave and Karen, Sept. 6" announced the news to the guests. Pink roses and white stock formed the centerpiece of the center table and a pink bow fastened to a crystal chandelier released streamers leading to the individual announcements. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Longden, San Leandro, California, are par-ents of the bridegroom, and Mrs. Longden was here from California to attend the announcement party. For the occasion the titian Woman's World Dj Gea Koenlf Entertains At Patio Party-Brunc-h Officers, teachers and visiting teachers of the Valley View Sixth Ward Relief Society were enter tained on the spacious patio of the L. Marcus home recently. Mrs. Edna Papworth reviewed the visiting teachers message and Mrs. Sarah J. Anderson was a special speaker on the Book of Mormon. Each guest was presented a copy of her talk. Brunch in the garden was served to 50 with Dorothy Larsen, Iilla Taylor, Helen Andrews, Polly J Price assisting Mrs. Jensen. "Around The Town" Back from thra week la tha east and the Industrial Editors Convention in Boston, Veggy Gunderson is at her desk at South East Furniture. Is still enthusing . over the stage plays, "My Fair Lady" and "New Girl in Town," the lucky gal was fortunate to see while in New York. She had dinner at the Waldorf with top actors of the show, New Girl In Town, following the evening per-formance; also relaxed in the com-fort of Ruebans. Elaine Michelscn, professor of art at Westminster College, is touring the continent and studying art in Europe this summer. Also spending a delightful summer in Europe is Miss Sally Sorensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Mor-- gan Sorensen. Gala festivities, program are planned for the coronation of Days of '47 queen, Monday evening July 1. The affair will be held at the Utah State Capitol. Lamont Toronto, in the absence of Gov. Clyde, will crown the queen. Virginia Tanner's dancers will appear on the program. Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Darny, Chevy-Chas- e, Maryland, are vis-iting at the home of her sister and brother-in-la- w, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph A. Sheffield, en route to a vacation in the Hawaiian Islands. Mrs. Sheffield will entertain at a dinner at the Fort Douglas Club Thursday evening. Guests will be Mr. and Mrs. Quayle Q. Cannon Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Curtis P. Harding, Mr. and Mrs. L. Marcus Jensen. Mr. Shef-field is deep-se- a fishing off the Mexico coast. Gay June Party For Sorority One of the gayest parties of the summer season was the June par-ty given by members of the Lamd-- ba cnapter Beta Sigma Phi, Sat-urday evening, June 15, at the Recreation Center on Redwood Koad. High-ligh- t of the evening was the kiddie costumes worn by the members. Inez Petersen captured Kearns was awarded a prize as the funniest man and Margaret Kearns carried home the prize for the funniest lady. The evening hours were enjoy-ed dancing and playing games. A delicious buffet supper was served by the committee members: Virginia Wheatley, Glenna Pizza; Bettymae Wharton and Lucy Ann Bywater. J. R. Frees' Celebrate Golden Anniversary An open house celebrating the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs J. Roy Free.1955 Laird Dr., was given at the home of their n and daughter-in-la- w, Mr. and Mrs. Ray D, Free, 4515 South 13th East Wednesday evening. The prominent Sugar House family have been associated in business in the area for almost half a century. He is president of Hygeia Ice Co., which was founded in 1912, and was president of the Artie Ice Co., from 1930 to 1943 and helped found Carbo Chemical Co. He was also one of founders of Peerless Laundry, and served as its president for 20 years. The Frees have taken an active part in their church and Mr. Free served in the Granite Stake's high council and was a member of the Lincoln Ward bishopric; he also filled two missions. Mrs. Free, the former Jennie DuChene, was born in South Dakota. She has served as a primary secretary, and in other auxiliaries in Granite Stake. She was also active in the Parents and Teachers Council. Mrs. Richards, Sons Travel To Denver Mrs. Henry W. Richards is leaving Thursday morning with her three sons, Henry Jr. 17, Jimmy, 12; and Tommy, 9;to meet Mr. Richards in Denver on his re-turn from Chicago. They will be in Denver a few days, returning the first of the week. David has writ-ten from his vacation as an ex-change student in Mexico to tell that all is well with him and that he is homesick. Relief Society Visits Ogden Monastery . The Relief Society of the Holl-ada- y Fifth Ward visited the mon-astery in Huntsville, Utah. High Mass, after which a talk was given by one of the fathers con-cerning life in the monastery. The trip proved instructive to all, learning the different ways of life of the monks. One thing they found of special interest was that the men eat mostly vege-tables, stone ground bread and eggs about once a week. A bus was chartered for the trip. Officers attending were Mrs. Henry Richards, president of the Relief Society, and Mrs. Farrin Howard, s and Mrs. William Cur-tis, counselors. On the return, they enjoyed a chicken dinner at Ma's and Pa's restaurant near Ogden. All the elders and their wives are invited to attend. Base-ball and horseshoes are planned to begin at 5;00, and a dinner is planned afterward. The party is under the direction of the Elders Quorum presidency, Al Ford, Bob Peterson, and Tony Reiter. Mrs, William DeReus and Mrs. Merla Myrick were luncheon guests of Miss Genevieve Langlois during the week. |
