Show said just how much Fred's work had been appreciated and just how much he would be missed. We also want to wish Fred good luck and thank him for a job well done. Policeman Retires It isn't easy for a policeman, police-man, after serving for half a lifetime, to put his badge and gun down and retire. Being a police officer, he has learned, is much more than an eight hour job; it is a way of life. He must be ready every second to step between the citizen and crime, he must be willing to lay down his life to save ours at any time. Everything he does, good or bad.he does as a policeman and he finds that sometimes people are willing to look closely for the bad and to ignore the good. Recently an officer who has always reflected good on himself and his fellow officers retired from the Police Department, after having been on the force for twenty-eight and a-half years. During these years Fred has been making friends of everyone he has met. His friendly smile and easy laugh have drawn people to him like a magnet. A few years ago he was elected "The Outstanding Citizen of Salt Lake". To pay tribute to Fred and his wife, Georgia, the officers of Sugar House Division and their wives held a farewell dinner for them at Harmon's Cafe in Sugarhouae'. 1 He was presented with a gift by his fellow officers.
