Show East Mill Creek Lions Launch Safety Program For Cycle Riders four schools. The Safety Campaign Cam-paign wil commence immediately immedi-ately and culminate on Saturday, Satur-day, April 26, 1958, which has been designated as Bicycle Safety Day. On that day all applicants for membership whose bicycles pass inspection and who have passed a written truefalse safety examination will be placed on the bicycle passing inspection, will be awarded to theSHH In addition, a grand prize of $15, plus free dinners for the winner and his parents will be awarded to the boy or . - - .... . m 4ft "V A program aimed at making bicycle-riding safer for young cyclists will be inaugurated soon in East Mill Creek. The program is sponsored by the East Mill Creek Lions Club and the P.T.A. organizations of the four elementary schools in the East Mill CCreek Area. These schools are Canyon Rim, Sherman, Morningside and East Mill Creek. The program features a Lions Bicycle Safety Club which will be organized and open to all bicycle riders in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in the girl submitting uie Dest au-word au-word answer to the question, "Why I Should Obey Bicycle Safety Rules." In announcing the program, the sponsors stated: 'The steady rise in motor traffic on our streets and highways high-ways is making the use of bicycles bi-cycles increasingly hazardous for young unskilled riders. In addition, lack of skill and disregard dis-regard of safety precautions are responsible for numerous injuries to riders where motor traffic is not a contributing factor. "We feel that this type of program will develop safety consciousness in these young minds. This will not only be of value to each child personally personal-ly but will awaken our community com-munity as a whole to the importance im-portance of observing traffic rules on our highways. The announcement was signed by principals of the four schools, Paul S. Worthen, ' East Mill Creek; John W. Fitzgerald, Fitz-gerald, Morningside; Mark A. Jackman, Sherman; L. J. Neil-son, Neil-son, Canyon Rim; and Philip B. Morton, chairman of the East Mill Creek Lions Club Bicycle Safety Program. Other members of the Lions Committee who will assist in this comprehensive Safety Program Pro-gram include: Ralph C Reynolds, Rey-nolds, George R. Gigi, George K. Prothero, Merton H. Jensen, Clinton H. Lundeberg, Wells S. Maudsley, Arthur L. Higbee, and Clarence A. Anderson, Board Representative.
