convention tion for another hour before the platform was ready it was adopted as read however in the convention A feature left out ot of the plaford which appeared in both the records of the congressional conventions vent ions the day before as unanimously adopted was the resolution condemning the ku klux KI klan an the klan resolutions were read in tabled the platform as adopted in full follows the democratic party ot of the state of utah in convention assembled makes the following declaration ot or policies and principles as a guide in legislative and administrative affairs of the state during the next tour four years a we adopt and ratify the national platform of the democratic Dema cratic party and the interpretations thereof by the honorable john W davis we regard john W davis as the ablest and most stalwart leader of public thought since the rise of the immortal woodrow wilson b we stand tor for honesty and efficiency fici ency in the management of public affairs and wo we invite a fair comparison of our record in the state and nation with that of the republican party c the important concerns of government are the securing and protecting of the individuals right to earn a living the improvement of the social mass through health control education and suppression of arime for everything that the republican party has accomplished in these fields we accord them full credit but we appeal to the record to prove that the democratic party in four years enacted more constructive and less destructive legislation than ban the republican party has enacted since statehood d at the present time we believe the most pressing needs of the people of 01 this state to be tax ta reduction I 1 we pledge ourselves to reduce governmental sovern mental expenditure to the lowest possible limit compatible with a government honestly efficiently and economically conducted school Sy system dead despite ite the tact fact that the republican party true to its past record la in this respect has again declined to cooperate with the educators ot of the state in an effort to lift the office of state superintendent of public instruction st out of party strife and in line with the settled policy of 0 the democratic party to place the interests of our children above the interests of those who seek office and we are willing to submit a constitutional tut ional amendment to the people to effectuate this result judiciary 1 i in this field we have repeatedly tried to cooperate with the republican party only to meet with contemptuous rebuff we have shown our good faith in appointing a re publican nub lican to the high office of the supreme court during a democratic and N we have tailed failed 0 get cooperation in raising the jandard of the judiciary we ledge our support to the efforts of lie he utah state bar association to acure ur a nonpartisan judiciary code we believe that our criminal code hould be completely and fully revised and we pledge ourselves to for such revision road program we demand the cutting down 0 ve expense in the expenditure t f road funds and a more efficient application of money in actual road we baand tor for a road em that will help develop the great resources of the state including our icente wonders arid and to this end we aill work for better roads leading n and out of the state on the great automobile hilgh abys world policy A world policy that will abolish vars lift the crushing burden of war axes from all nations and open to america the markets of the world tariff we believe in a competitive tariff which will best promote the interests of the american producers and bield the necessary revenue to the government without stifling trade or closing foreign markets to the products of our farms and factories railroads A railroad policy that will proven discrimination against and will insure tar far and just freight rates to the intermountain states I 1 i industrial policy the settlement of differences between employers and employees by peaceful means and to this end the adoption of an industrial code that will frankly recognize and define the basic rights of all parties in industry agricultural policy I 1 A policy that will give to the agricultural ri and livestock interests instead of advice some present relief from their distressing situation and 1 an equalization between their buying and selling markets we sup i port and work vork tor for all measures state arid and national calculated to stimulate the production and efficient marketing of the farm the range and the mine to the mutual advantage of producer and consumer law enforcement t the tha enforcement without discrimination of the constitution and all laws so long as they remain upon the statute books including the eighteenth amendment and to place the prohibition forces under civil service rules instead of making this service the spoil of politics relief for disabled prompt and adequate care and relief tor for wounded and disabled service men cial ci al service the enforcement fairly impartially and in good faith all civil service rules and statutes including the merit system of appointment and promotion general statement we are opposed to government control 61 business that destroys initiative but we are likewise opposed to control of government by big business the democratic party is now as it always has been a friend of the farmer and laborer and the masses who toil we promise to keep the door of the governor of this state open and to make our ou r legislators responsive to the will ot of the people we offer our past record in evidence as proof of our intent to keep keel the faith and we extend a cordial invitation vit vi to all who believe in honesty in government progressive poli policies cies
