Show must take action at once to secure experiment peri ment station ros siBLE TO SECURE ITS ES IF PROPER ACTION IS taire N AT onice CY by THOSE interested somo some time ago tho the experiment station ol of the utah agricultural college at logan according to william peterson director and geologist received a request from the alfalfa seed eed growers of the uintah basin tor for an alfalfa seed experiment farm because the great cost ot of such a scientific farm and the budget already having been made by the legislature of 1922 and pared to the very limit it was impossible tor for the extension division to give relief along this line but the idea was not forgotten and last summer at the alfalfa seed growers convention held in conjunction with the U B I 1 C the matter of the alfalfa seed experimental farm was again taken up with mr air peterson and congressman don B colton present mr colton Is heartily in favor of the feature and will work to that end mr peterson recognizes tho the great need tor for the experimental farm in the heart of the alfalfa seed industry but consideration of the problems of such a proposition could not bo be considered by them except at a time of the meeting of the legislature when the item tor for Us its maintenance could be taken care of 0 in the annual budget As there thera has never been a scientific investigation ora on the raising of alfalfa seed while data on oil nearly every other field crop can be secured from the department either at logan or washington the uintah basin alfalfa seed growers are vitally interested in the proposition and are wanting the alfalfa seed experimental peri mental farm located some where in the uintah basin thus tar far no formal action has been taken to secure this much needed experimental farm tor for the great alfalfa seed industry of the uintah basin and utah its now only a short time before the state legislature will meet and such formal application must be made by the experimental station at the U A C and also must be backed by the peti petition tiong of those interested in the welfare of the project it Is now up to the uintah and duchesne county farm bureau organizations and every local in them to 0 get busy and get these petitions chambers of commerce of every basini basin town also other interested people and organizations and send them in at once to the director of of the experimental station at the U A C logan the proper kind of activity will got get us the operation cooperation co necessary to make our alfalfa seed industry still a better and more sure success than it is lets all get busy at once also our two representatives and state senator should bo be made thoroughly conversant with the proposition that they may present it before the legislative body A memorial should also be sent sant to the governor fully stating our needs that he too may be in full harmony with the proposition |
