Show illusion 1 4 4 F 0 0 U Ss as mary GRAHAM BONNER ON NEP ro GUARDING THE HOUSE william was as fond of adventures and and fun as any one but there was nothing about him that was mean or unkind now a lady had gone away on oa a visit slie she had not been away for quite awhile before she had left she had bad looked forward so much to this visit she had been marking oil oft the days on a calendar and counting when tho the day would come that she would be on tier way and at last she had bad gone she had bad left the house carefully locked up and she ehe had put everything away slie she loved tier her house it had bad been in the family for many years tier her grandmother had been born in the house and so BO had her mother and her sisters and brothers and it was indeed a lovely house which seemed so much a part of the family that it was almost like a real person she actually enjoyed house cleaning time because the house looked so beautiful when it was house bouse cleaned and slie she loved to give parties in the house for the house always dressed vp tp so nicely the house was so go glad of a fresh coat of 0 paint once in awhile though it was a good house and looked as well as it possibly could even when it did need freshening and the house was always so comforting to her in the winter the big fireplace was as so cheery clie ery in the summer the rooms and the halls wore were so cool and so restful she was not sad about leaving the house for slie she knew it would be there to welcome her when she canie came back in IL fact slie ilie was perfectly happy about leading leai ing she had grown a little lonely for the lie house speak sp eak though it did the best it could to act fis as company for her it really did remarkably well nell for a house too and she was looking forward to this visit had been looking forward to it for a long time as ive said that wa the ideal thing 1 I to go away on jelly visits but to have the dear house to come back to as her belated home so she had bad gone away 01 oj her visit now boys and girls all liked the lady the lady liked boys and girls the lady thought very highly of witham william who was an extremely nice boy and william thought very highly ol of the lady now when the lady had started off on her visit william had said 1 I will keep an eye on the house bouse and the on the roof lady had been pleased at that witham william not only kept one eye on the house bouse but two one day after the lady had gone cone away two boys and a girl broke into the house they broke through a window and in they went they ran through the rooms with their muddy shoes they pulled things about they went up in the garret and played with the lovely old curiosities which the lady so loved they dragged things out of the bureau dr drawers auers they marched through the rooms anil and then they went out of the garret door to the roof william was looking about the house lie ile had not seen anyone go in when suddenly lie saw the two boys and the girl on the roof ile he knew aho who vho they were too and that made film all the angrier because he thought it was so terrifically wrong for coy any one who knew the lady to break into her beloved house lie he rushed into the house and down he brought them all and how lie he talked to them and how lie he scolded them I 1 ile he told thera them what a wicked thing it was to go into house and that they were going where they had bad no right and that they had no more right to go into the ladys house than she would have had the right to break into theirs and use us e their toys and smash their engines when they went away ana especially lie he told them that of nil all things in the world nothing was any worse than hurting what soine gome one else loved for tiey had bad not cared for the ladys house and thoy had crushed some flowers floers in getting into the window and were ready to play with anything they saw shamefacedly they went out of the linuse after all there had been no fun in it and they felt very menu mean and ery treacherous to the lady who had bad gone away william had guarded the house william wits local loal william was very fine I 1 |
