Show FOREST FIRE SEASON the forest service organization Z a ashow is how facing the most dangerous thirty day period of the year from the standpoint of fire hazard hadid in the forests the timberlands of the intermountain n region are now in an extremely dry and inflammable condition and with the prospect of a stretch of dry settled weather ahead ahead the field force of the service up e i is s straining every res resource burce to keep down the seasons fire losses in this effort the cooperation of the thousands of visitors to the forests is urgently requested up to and including august 10 there have been reported to the ogden headquarters this sea sona total of fires oc curing in the forests of utah nevada southern id idaho a and southwestern wyoming of these fires 45 have beeri conned to areas of less les s than ithan one fourth acre 84 to less i than ten acres and only 18 have i exceeded this acreage or caused damage in excess of the total damages for the season to date amount to approximately 1000 and the total cost of actual fire suppression to 1600 I 1 last year for the same period 86 fires were reported the height of the season being reached be tween august 14 and 28 and in 1914 up to august 10 a total of fires occurred so far this season the boise forest leads in number of fires having reported a total of 15 only two of which however burned over areas in excess of 10 acres I 1 it is only necessary to matlo mention n the recent ontario fire which took a toll of nearly lives ail and caused enormous property losses to show the extreme need of care with fire on the part of everyone whose business or pleasure takes him into a forest |
