Show communication j roosevelt utah mar 2 5 1915 to the readers of the standard in order to correct an error that has reached the people in ra regard to my attitude in the nik case some seemed to think that I 1 voted to seat mr warnick w which is not true as the house journal will show and I 1 wish to say here that my vote to unseat utah county countes coun tys Ps representative was neither a personal nor political matter but purely a matter of the constitutionality of mr right to his seat in the legislature the fact that I 1 voted with my republican friends to submit the arse to the attorney Gener alfor his hig opinion 1 I consider quite right and consistent mr warnick had a perfect right to a fair and impartial trial I 1 for one considered the opinion op ol of the attorney general of dt great importance and when finally his opinion in writing was wag handed to our committee it was found that attorney general barnes opinion was that mr warnick was not entitled to his seat in the legislature the vote shows th that mr warnick received every republican vote except one in favor of seating him two democratic and one progressive vote which gave him his seat but du chesnes representative vote was recorded against mr mi warnick this is neither the dirae nor place to criticise criticism critic ise those who voted for utah countes coun tys representative my only object in writing this article is for the purpose of letting those who thought that I 1 had disregarded the constitution of the state of utah and aind the at torney generals opinion that they had not received the correct information not that I 1 consider it a crime to vote with our republican friends but very often it is the duty of a gord good democrat to vote with them legislation should not be agitation in fact it is my opinion that much bat better results could be obtained if all representatives and senators would leve leave their politics at home and gc get t right down to work that they are sworn in to do there is only one oath administered in the house of representatives senta tives and republicans and democrats alike take that oath which is to uphold and sustain the constitution of the united states and the constitution of the state of utah in conclusion I 1 will say that I 1 feel in my soul that I 1 have kept inviolate my oath and can look my constituents in the face without fear feeling that I 1 did all in my power to bring the best results to our county state and nation I 1 may outline the work done for this part of the county later on when a list can be obtained of the measures that escape the governors blue pencil when I 1 am sure you will be pleased if not with what I 1 did with what I 1 strove to do respectfully yours wm oneil representative district |
