| Show GR GROWTH OF NEOLA FROM 1915 TO 1925 1 on arriving at neola may the first 1915 1 was greatly surprised when when I 1 stepped off the train to see the many changes which had kt i taken place during the past ten i years of which time I 1 dreamed I 1 t t had been een absent absent from the place y k it but on arriving I 1 decided to take ta in the city in strolling along s main street looking first one way and then the other I 1 ran against a nion mon whom I 1 recognized as one of my old friends clyde kone he informed d me that he was the I 1 chief of police and of course I 1 n I 1 mew that he was some big fel 4 low by the club which he had in al his hand band and of which I 1 received I 1 a smart tap on the back with the II 11 soft end when I 1 ran against him 1 after conversing with kith him a short time he hailed a street car telling me that it would serve my purpose very nicely i on entering the car I 1 meet the conductor keplin smithyson Smi who said he would be pleased to show me the city As we flew along the different streets he pointed out the pretty residences to me amo among rig which was the beautiful residence of bishop Criss Averett he be having been put in as bishop at the last conference pence and he told me that bishop averett was the youngest bishop in the valley he also showed me the residence of 1 I N workman who having sold his farm was now managing the largest clothing department store in the city he then pointed out to me s the office of the neola real estate co managed by hugh barns on entering 13 street we came upon the office of taij neola news co managed by T t wil kerson jr and which is one of the th largest elargest printing establish ments indents in the county we also went around by the electric light and power plant which 1 s situated just southeast of the city operated by albert woodward and fumi furnishing shing light and power to the whole valley asive As we near neared edthe the high school building 0 a gentleman hopped on the cari recognized him as i r german workman he told me ahat that he had been president of the high school for a number of years jears and that they had issued teachers certificates to a great I 1 many students some of lhome are afe alice hutcheon who was principal of the district school clyde peterson hillery workman jesse kone erma castello florence and kate barnes bames and others he said were teaching in district schools throughout the county As we came back on main street the conductor called my attention to a large building made of brick that he said is the largest music company in utah and that prof arthur hutcheon was employed to instruct the vocal department therein and the millinery parlors of miss violet hutcheon and merle petty occupied the upper stories during my stay of two weeks in the city a chance to meet many frie friends rids who were in 1915 boys and girls in their tens but who had grown to be men and women and ma many ny of whom are holding responsible positions A few of whom I 1 will mention mr elwin peterson was seen gliding lea surely over the cement sidewalks he having charge of an eastern insurance company whose office is located in the center of the city also elmer woodward a book book agen agent was tramping from one street to another elbowing his way through the crowded streets approaching every one getting them to buy his book which contained a history of samuel T peterson the greatest statesman the world has ever known well I 1 being interested in my old friend I 1 bought a book and by reading I 1 found that samuel T began his political life in 1916 that he had been in congress a number of years and that his party was going to put him hitup up as a candidate for president 01 1 the nation the next presidential dental election As I 1 stepped into the post of fice which had been so remodeled and enlarged large enough to supply the valley with mail it looked like I 1 met tom peterson coming out through the door with a small mail sack on his shoulder and james barnes bames the postmaster told me tom carried the mail over to hayden an and d back naturally I 1 joked toward the east and saw some one corn coming rig in with a load 0 of f freight and I 1 asked what it was loaded with and was ivas told that it was products from the creamery making their daily visits vias to the station to load their products on the cars |
