Show School Doings ALTERRA HIGH The Alterra music department has at last ceased buzzing with preparations for the music festivals, fes-tivals, which are over for another an-other year. Our school had an excellent representation at both the Region 5 meet in Vernal, and the Uintah Basin meet in Roosevelt. Our Vernal ratings were: Gwen Bodily, trombone solo, 'Cascade," 2 rating; J o 1 e e n Swain, piano solo, "Valse in E flat," 1 rating; Band, marching, march-ing, 2 rating; Band, concert, "One Beautiful Day," "Orlando Palandrino," 2-plus rating; Dale Hayes, Kenneth Long, Devon Seeley, trumpet trio, "Call of the Whip-poor-will," 2 rating. Isola Morrill, Afton Bodily, alto sax duet, "Down South," 2 rating; Bob Irmen, Ensyne Clark, clarinet duet, "Valse Re-nene," Re-nene," 2 rating; Ladies Glee, "Magic Carpet," 2-plus rating; Mixed chorus, "Heavenly Light" Koplow Wehoushy, "The Orchestra," Or-chestra," by Shuman, 1 rating-. Leona Christensen, vocal solo, "My Hero," 1 rating; Lela Bart-lett, Bart-lett, vocal solo, "Gia Nina Mia," 2 rating; Lela Moosman, vocal solo, "One Kiss," 1 rating; Double trio, "Little Red Shoes," 2-plus rating. After the judging, one of the judges called Mr. Johnson in and praised Alterra highly for the music-work in the school. Because the score was used for the solos and ensembles, the judge stated he marked contestants con-testants down one point. Otherwise Other-wise the ratings would have been all in the "superior" class. The mixed chorus was especially espe-cially praised because so many in it are not taking the regular chorus class. The success of the chorus completely shattered the idea that certain students can't sing. . Lorraine Anderson Reporter ROOSEVELT HIGH The Roosevelt high school concert con-cert band received an excellent-plus excellent-plus rating at the Vernal meet, while the marching band rated excellent. Other ratings received by Roosevelt high school students and groups are as follows: Lloyd Carlson, cornet, superior; super-ior; Carolyn Whiting, trumpet, superior-minus; Carl Jensen, baritone, bar-itone, superior; Allen Smith, trombone, excellent-plus; Dean Pond, oboe, superior; Dean Pond, clarinet, superior; Larry Wilson, piano, superior; Lloyd Carlson; Warden Olsen and Gordon Gor-don Eldredge, cornet trio, superior su-perior minus. Carolyn Whiting, Jack Burgess, Bur-gess, and Allen Gines, trumpet trio, excellent-plus; Larry Mitchell, Mit-chell, Johnny Ruppel, Allen Smith, and Carl Jensen, brass quartet, superior.
