Show Their First Attempt . Altamont Prepares To Greet Rural Education Conference By Thelma D. Nye Superintendent Dean C. Chris-tensen Chris-tensen reports the schedule for the Rural Life and Education Conference has been completed and urges all residents of Duchesne Du-chesne County to take advantage advan-tage of this wonderful educational, educa-tional, inspirational and entertaining enter-taining opportunity. The conference con-ference will be at Altamont High "School on Friday, March 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Floyd Ross, Roosevelt, will lead community singing, with opening prayer by President Ernest Winkler, of the Moon Lake stake presidency. President Presi-dent E. L. Murphy, of the Duchesne Du-chesne County school board, will deliver the welcome message. mes-sage. Supt. Dean C. Christensen will introduce guests. The Du-I chesne High School mixed chorus, chor-us, with nearly a hundred voices, voic-es, directed by Lloyd N. Beck-stead, Beck-stead, Jr., will sing three numbers, num-bers, "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel," "Let the Mountain! Shout for Joy," and "King Jesus Jes-us Is a Listenin'." The opening key-note address will be by Dr. LeGrande Noble, 1 director of Extension Division of the Utah State Agricultural College. Instructions to participants partici-pants will be by Principal Chap-in Chap-in D. Bristol, Altamont High. 10:30 to 12:00 will be Group Discussions, with the following topics on the agenda: 1. Future Development of New Industries and Further Development De-velopment of Natural Resources in the Basin; 2. How a Better Understanding of Taxation, Property Assessments, Lane Ownership Patterns, and Legis lative Trends Will Improve Rur al Living; 3. Stimulating a De sire for Cultural Opportunities in Rural Areas; 4. How Closer Co-ordination of Schools, Civic Clubs, Churches, P-T-A's. Loca Government, Improves Rural Living and Public Relations; 5 Further Integration of Indian and White People in School anc Community Relationships; 6 Education for Rural Children Improvement of Education , in Duchesne County. Lunch at a minimum price will be served at the Altamont School Lunch room. Mrs. Reva Owen and all school lunch personnel per-sonnel in Duchesne County is assisting with the conference eating arrangements. At 1:15 p.m. the participants in the Group Discussions will re-convene until 2:30. The Altamont High School chorus and band, directed by Afton Smithson, will deliver two musical musi-cal numbers, "Stout Hearted Men," and "The House I Live In." Closing prayer will be by President Elmer Moon, of ' the Duchesne Stake Presidency. Beginning at 4:00 p.m. free movies "will be presented at the Altamont Theatre, through the courtesy of Leland Stevenson, owner and manager. All are invited in-vited to enjoy this special feature. fea-ture. At 6:30 p.m., an evening meal will be served at the Altamotit lunch room, by school lunch personnel. One of trie most colorful and worthwhile features of the conference con-ference will be the special evening eve-ning program, which will begin at 7:30 p.m., with preliminary music by the Altamont High School band, directed by Lorin Allred. Arrangements have been made with the "International Club," of the Brigham Young University to present a program featuring native costumes, dances dan-ces and special activities of foreign for-eign lands even a sword swallowing swal-lowing act is often on the agenda, agen-da, according to A. G. Hawkins, chairman of arrangements. The participants on this program will be native students of foreign for-eign lands, who are presently attending the University. This program will be announced at the time of presentation, but promises to be a unique presentation. Many prominent personalities and experts in special fields, on a local and state-wide basis, will participate in the conference especially es-pecially designed for "Improving "Improv-ing Rural Living," conference theme. These include the group chairmen, all Duchesne County people; the group leaders, all especially invited guests; the group consultants, who are both local people and specially invited in-vited guests from all parts of the state; and the group sum- marizers, who are experts in special fields with special know ledge and experience necessary to the success of the conference.
