Show Three Posts Filled At Onion High; Coach Appointed Three new instructors at Union Un-ion High School for 1954 have signed their contracts, and two vacancies yet remain to fill, along with a new clerk of the board, is an announcement made yesterday by Loman F.-Hutchings, F.-Hutchings, principal. Among the vacancies filled is' that of football coach with Sar--kis Arslanian, former Dixie' College and University of' Utah athlete, signed to take over where Horace Gissespie will leave off when the end of school comes. Added to the faculty for next year will be a student counselor counsel-or a new position. This post will be filled by Paul Barton, Brigham Young University graduate, grad-uate, and prominent in student and campus affairs. The other new instructor who' has signed a contract is Norman Long, native of. Bennett, who has been mechanic arts teacher and athletic coach at Duchesne High School the oast year. He will fill the post to be vacated by Nyle Buxton in the mechanic! arts department. A graduate o$ the Utah State Agricultural) College, he spent a stretch in: the armed forces as a commissioned commis-sioned officer. .; California Native A native of Fresno, Calif or-.; nia, the new football coach was' outstanding in student government govern-ment at both Dixie and the "U,"; and for the past two years has; been teaching and coaching at", the Central Junior High School'' in Salt Lake Citv highly rated to fill the post at Union, where he will have a ' fine group of football youngsters young-sters to work with next fall. He ' will teach physiology aiong . with his coaching. f - Mr. Barton is a native of Kaysville, Utah, and while af- ' filiated at the BYU was charter president of the Alpha Phi Omega, national service fraternity, frater-nity, in 1945, and was chapter ' president of Lambda Delta Sigma Sig-ma in 1948. He will institute for the first time at Union coun- ' selmg and guidance service At their last regular meeting the Union High Board approved the above three contracts, and " accepted the resignation of Miss Bette Eldredge, who has served the past three years as clerk of : 1 the board. She was accorded a vote of thanks for the outstand- ' ing manner in which she had filled her position. Applications ' will be received for this position posi-tion at the local office. Vacancies still to be filled are a farm mechanics instructor to ' fill the position vacated by E. A. Call, and another home eco- ' nomics teacher. ! |
