LARSON, former Roosevelt ward bishop, was nominated from District Four as a candidate for the Utah State School Board, He was high vote getter in Provo confab R. Vernon Larson, Roosevelt physician and active church and civic worker, and Dr. Reuben D. Law, BYU professor of Pro vo, were the successful candidates candi-dates at the District Four nominating nom-inating convention in Provo last Friday for the state school board position. They defeated Allen D. Johnson of Orem and Mrs. Alta Ballif, Provo, for the two places on the ballot. Dr. Larson was nominated on the first ballot, polling nearly 70 of the approximate 100 votes cast. A second ballot was required re-quired between Dr. Law and Mrs. Ballif, who were tied on the first ballot, with the former being successful in the second try. According to the new law regulating the election of state school board members, two candidates can-didates must be nominated at a non-political convention. How ever, other names may be placed on the ballot by petition if sufficient signatures are secured se-cured (50 are required). The two nominees have quite a bit in common both have had experience as bishops in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dr. Larson was released about six weeks ago, and Dr. Law is serving' in one of the Provo ward at present. Both men carry a doctor pre-fix -before their names one is an MD and the other is a doctor philosophy. Voters will find the school board ballot at the polling places next fall when they go to elect county, congressional and judicial officials. Four counties, Uintah, Duchesne, Wasatch and Utah, make up district dis-trict Four. ' Those; attending the Provo confab were, Bennie Schmiett, James Hall, John Blaine, Hollis G. Hullinger, Dr. and Mrs. Larson, Lar-son, Mrs. Omni Winterton and Wendell Johnson from Roose- ' velt. and Harold Lundell from Vernal. Arthur Wiscomb, formerly for-merly of Roosevelt, but now of Provo, joined the local delegation. delega-tion. ' : |
