Show I Sports In The Open Space The Utah Department of Fish and Game appealed to sportsmen today to be extremely careful with ! fire during the several outdoor j seasons just ahead and throughout the fall season. Critical fire hazard conditions are the rule in fields and on the i ranges following one of the state's (longest dry periods withotu appreciable ap-preciable moisture. The loss of both feed and babi-tat babi-tat from fires means the loss of outdoor pleasures for years to come. Sportsmen are urged never to j leave fires unattended or before they are extinguished, and to be sure that matches or any other burning substances are not thrown away before the fire is put out. ARCHERS SET RECORD , A record number of 3,196 arch ers were afield during the sixteen ! day bow and arrow deer hunt ending Sept. 16, the department of fish and game said today. This number exceeds by 1,420 permittees the archers afield last year when the total reached 1,776 for a new high at that time. No figures for the archery kill will be available until a later date when the permit -cards are received receiv-ed tabulated at department offices. One field check of archers on the Beaver Mountain shows 56 deer taken in that area during the recent re-cent season. A spokesman said final figures are expected to again show a high success for this type of hunting. Archers are urged to fill in and mail to department offices the bow hunting permit cards. The law requires that this be done within five days ' following the September 16 end of the hunt. DON'T LOSE TAG With the general deer season only a month away, sportsmen were reminded today that they should be sure they have not lost the metal deer tag issued with each combination or big game license. Deadline date for purchase of a duplicate tag in case of loss is Oct. 19 this year, the day before the opening date of the general deer sason. Utah Fish, and Game Commission Commis-sion ruling provides that, "Deer tags may be replaced when lost until the opening date of the general' gen-eral' deer season. Cost of replacement replace-ment shall be $1 (one dollar), at department of fish and game offices of-fices only, and shall be issued following submittal of a signed affidavit of such loss." No duplicate tags will be issued after Oct. 19- Department offices are located at 1596 West North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. |
