Show Un'm Sp!its Two Weekend fiames; Here n Dec. 12-13 The basketball season officially of-ficially opened for the Union High Cougars last Friday ami Saturday as they made a weekend week-end jaunt into Wasatch anl Utah counties, where they split a pair of games, winning one and losing the other. Friday night the alwavs-tough Wasps from Wasatch High at Heber City trounced the Cougars Cou-gars 40-35 in a gamp that saw the Wasps leading 32-20 at the end of the third period. A. strong finish - the last quarter closed the gap to ,5 points. On Saturday night. Coach All-red's All-red's charges turrjed on the heat at Pleasant Grove, and with Leon Ross, Ken Nickell and'Byrrel Lamb leading the .offensive, the Cougars routed the Grovers 64-35. Especiali. impressive were the Cougars on the foul line, where they made 24 out of 36 tries. Nickell madt 8 for 8, Lamb 3 for 3. and Ross 2 for 2, to give them each ;i perfect night. Coach Allred split his 17-mar squad each night, and the sec ond team won both games. Friday and Saturday night;. Dec. 12 and. 13, the Cougars will be at home, when they entertain en-tertain Pleasant Grove and Mo-ab Mo-ab on respective nights. The preliminary contest gets go'in"2 at 6:45 p. m., and the second game takes off at 8 p. m.
