Show From The Files 20 Years Ago This Week The Roosevelt city council met in special session Monday night to consider bids for the furnishing of 5,500 feet of water Pipe line and the digging of a trench for it from the city reservoir res-ervoir to Main street. The bids lor digging the trench were awarded to Messrs. J. Austin Pack and Louie Galloway. The pipe contract was awarded to the Burnham Manufacturing company. The defendant water users of the Uintah Basin met Monday Mon-day at the Dry Gulch Irrigation company office to discuss joint problems and to make recommendations recom-mendations and petitions to the Federal court for the 1930 season. sea-son. The associated companies decided to employ attorney Ray E. Dillman to represent the defendant de-fendant companies at the hearing', hear-ing', to be held by the court when the appointment of a federal fed-eral water commissioner is made. The delegates adopted a resolution that the companies endorse and recommend the reappointment re-appointment of Horace Sheley, who has filled the No. 1 position po-sition the last two years. A Republican club for Duchesne Du-chesne county was organized last Friday in Duchesne. Officers Of-ficers elected were A. C. Harm-ston, Harm-ston, president; Owen Bennion, vice-president; L. C. Winslow, secretary; and J. V. McLea, treasurer. The initial steps to the formation forma-tion of a local poultry association associa-tion were taken Friday at a meeting in the Commercial club. Jordan, legal and finance; Axel Birch, chairman, Lloyd Panter, Cecil Wilkinson, Mr. Jordan, Douglas Doug-las McAffee, and Henry Litster, publicity, Americanism, and athletics. A motion to form a junior baseball league was referred re-ferred to the athletic committee commit-tee for action. 10 Years Ago This Week Heber T. Hall, of Roosevelt, was named chairman of the Duchesne Du-chesne County Republican party par-ty at the biennial convention held Saturday at AHamont high school. Mrs. Helen Holder, of Myton, was elected vice-president; Verland Nelson, of Roosevelt, Roose-velt, secretary-treasurer. Delegates Dele-gates to the state convention are Ray E. Dillman, W. W. McConkie, and Mr. Hall, all of "Roosevelt F. L. Maxwell and Rulon J. Larsen, both of Duchesne; Du-chesne; Mrs. Holder, of Myton; Jesse LeFevre, of Tabiona; William Wil-liam Potter, of Boneta; George Brandon, of Mt. Home; and Owen Bennion, of Mt. Emmons. Roosevelt's Rough Riders lost their first game of the state tournament Wednesday to South Summit, 35-26. At the next meeting of the city council, March 18, committees com-mittees will have ready details of the $96,500 WPA sewer project pro-ject for the city, aDproved last week by President Roosevelt. The first Uintah Basin musical musi-cal festival has been scheduled for Roosevelt, April 25-27. All Basin schools will compete here this year instead of traveling to Price, as in previous years. Building improvements were discussed by recently installed officers and directors of the Roosevelt Commercial club, at their first meeting of the new term, Thursday. Recommendations Recommenda-tions were made to modernize and improve lavatory facilities in the club building', and the house committee was authorized to proceed with the work -this spring. - |
