Show 2 -lj "aud Knout? The great spring oil influx into in-to the basin has begun. Employees Employ-ees of the Pioneer and Mountain Moun-tain States Drilling companies have been flocking to Roosevelt for days. There have been numerous num-erous families in the office this week inquiring about apartments, apart-ments, I generally have to tell them, "No soap." People just aren't advertising apartments for rent anymore, They're holding a big reclamation recla-mation discussion down at the Frontier Grill Saturday night. I understand there is to be a complete airing of the Central Utah project. Seems interesting, but I think the sponsors made one big mistake, in their invitations, invi-tations, in failing to invite any of the ladies. At the last big reclamation meeting, held In September at the Legion hall, only two women showed up to hear the discission; and one was a reporter. I guess there's a good precedent there, but I still wonde.r whether members of the fairer sex will understand. After all, this meeting will be in the form of a social, even though the principal theme will be "water." I think the city property committee com-mittee should give careful consideration con-sideration to the bid of Roy and Dean Hall, of Heber, who want to put up an auction yard here in Roosevelt. The farmers and ranchers in the Basin could well use a local market for their livestock, instead of having hav-ing to gq clear to Salt Lake, Ogden, or Ejenyer tq buy and sell stock. An outlet for livestock is desperately des-perately needed here, and the Heber men should be encouraged encour-aged to locate here, either on the ground suggested at the city council meeting Monday night, or on some other local site. Complaints of smelling up the town and the like hardly hold water when stacked up against the benefits that would accrue from a local auction yard. Veronal Vero-nal has already eut in 8 bid tp get the yards located there. People in Roosevelt and surrounding sur-rounding towns might well consider con-sider getting behind the proposed pro-posed stepped-up city recreation program. An inter-city spftball league would grpy-e ipferesfi.ng to all towns in the area, ""and the people pf Rqqsevelt certainly certain-ly have a stake jr) such improvements improve-ments as bleachers fpr the sqft-ball sqft-ball field and lights for the tennis ten-nis courts. The council certainly had a busy night Monday. About the only thing I missed was the peanuts o f previous sessions. Somebody slipped up. This is income tax time again. neglecting their work this week to fill out those complicated forms. One fellow came in here yesterday asking for income tax forms, said all the regular channels chan-nels were out, As he said, that's what you get for waiting until next to the last day. Spring has sprung at last. March is here, along with the kites. Sunday afternoon I took time off from the grind to go up to city park and fly my kite. The wind was just right. The only trouble in the process developed when I tried to bring the kite down. Then I discovered, discover-ed, entirely too late, that I need- 1 ed more space to maneuver a perfect landing. The result was i that I had to fish my kite out of. a tree, fortunately undam- aged. i Some people tell me flying kites is a pretty juvenile occu-h pation. But aren't a lot of other 1 j things that characterize our ev- I eryday lives? |
