Show Two, DHS Seniors Compete In Merit Program Two outstanding seniors at Duchesne Du-chesne High School will compete in the new, multi-million dollar National Merit Scholarship Program, Pro-gram, Principal Harry Mangus announced an-nounced today. These high ranking rank-ing local students will be aiming at some 200 four-year college scholarships that can carry up to full tuition and living expenses, depending upon the financial need of each winner. Winners will be chosen on the basis of their ability to profit from a higher education. Maxine Lewis and Betty Jo Jacoby are the seniors named to take a preliminary screening test to be given in the high school Oct. 26, 1955, as the first step. The competition is open to all secondary second-ary schools, and is the largest program of its kind. The scholarship program is conducted con-ducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, an independent, inde-pendent, non-profit education organization or-ganization set up by grants of $20,500,000. Aimed at the discovering discover-ing and helping the most talented students in the country, the Merit Program permits the winners, known as Merit Scholars, to choose any accredited college or university and any course of study. |
