Show Tip To Utah Hunters All the deer aren't shot on opening day. You will have a safer, more enjoyable hunt a few days after the season opens. There may be a few less deer. . . there will be a great many less hunters both on the road and in the field. If you must hunt opening day, you will kill more deer sitting still in crowded country than chasing deer for the next fellow. Expect snow in the mountains. Go prepared. Take car chains and a pair of pacs. They may be too hot for dry ground, but they are fine if snow falls. Also on the subject of footwear, cushion soles make rough ground softer. Choose comfortable, tough footwear. foot-wear. If it snows, sit tight, you maye have to stay a day or two, but it will beat trying to drive through a blizzard. Remember, too, you'll stand a better chance of busting that buck after the snow falls. Deer move then. Weara red cap and jacket. It is required by law, and it may save your life. Know the water situation of your camp. Prepare for a dry camp, if you don't know. After shooting your deer, bleed and hang the meat as soon as possible. Wipe out blood with dry rags. Water will' cause meat to spoil, so don't wet it if you can't dry it. If you hang your deer by the head it will drain better and be easier to skin. 1 Use binoculars or a scope for safety's sake. Don't shoot at sounds. Make your hunt an event you want to remember. |
