Show Farmers Eligible For Help In Conservation Farmers in Duchesne County who are considering soil and water conservation practices this fall and winter who need assistance through the Agricultural Conservation program, pro-gram, may find themselves in a better position to get Federal cost-sharing cost-sharing than for many years, Joseph Wilcken, chairman of the Duchesne Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation county committee commit-tee said today. In 1954 a law was passed that ACP cost-sharing could not be of fered to any farmer who did not comply with all of the acreage allotments al-lotments on his farm. However, effective with the 1955 crop year there are no allotment restrictions tied to ACP. Duchesne County farmers who overplanted their wheat acreage allotments are no longer prohibited from participating participat-ing in the program. Funds are still available for Federal cost-sharing cost-sharing on practices which may be carried out this fall, Mr. Wilcken said. October 28th is the last day that farmers in this county can sign-up for ACP practices to be started with cost-sharing approved before December. A written request re-quest for assistance to the program pro-gram must be filed with the coun-(Continued coun-(Continued on Back Page) FARMERS CAN GET HELP. . . Farmers are also reminded that after Octobep 31st, no purchase orders will be issued in connection connec-tion with 1955 practices. The ACP shares with farmers the cost of many conservation practices that are considered in the interest of the nation as a whole. Some of the practices included in-cluded in the Duchesne County program are: constructing permanent perman-ent open drainage systems to dispose dis-pose of excess water, leveling irrigable ir-rigable land for more efficient use of irrigation water and initial establishment es-tablishment of a permanent vegetative vege-tative cover for soil protection or as a needed land use adjustment. There are also other practices on which assistance may be provided, Mr. Wilcken said. The ACP is one of the programs handled locally by the Duchesne ASC county committee com-mittee located at Roosevelt, Utah. Other members of the committee are Otto Lloyd and Alfred Goodrich. |
