Show Important Events Highlight 1956 Ten Top Stories During Year 1956 Picking the top news stories of the year in the Basin has been a difficult task because of the wealth of important events that serve to keep the Basin one of Utah's most interesting places to live. The year saw many happy events, some unfortunate occurences, oc-curences, but basically it saw a course of events that showed the real strength of the Basin and its people. A continued drought troubled farmers-and businessmen too--but a late-in-the-year emergency declaration dec-laration brought hope for an easier winter and spring. Some folks became discouraged and had to move away, but there were plenty more willing to take their places and ride out that particular storm. The State began improving Highway High-way 40 and the prospect was for continually improved roads, schools, and other public facilities facili-ties and needs throughout the county. There were many other stories of note, some to be found elsewhere else-where in this edition, but the fol-owing fol-owing are "10 of the best" stories Df the year, in the opinion of the editors: |
