Show 51,663 Cans Food Processed In Roosevelt Cannery A total of 46,272 cans for individual in-dividual use in local homes and 5,391 cans for the General Wel-j Wel-j fare Storehouse for a total of 1 51 663 cans were processed at the Roosevelt LDS Stake cannery in the 1956 canning season, reports re-ports James E. Bacon, Stake cannery can-nery supervisor. Operation of the cannery is under the direction of Mrs. Edna Drollinger of Ioka, supervisor of preparation of foods Clyde R. Kelsey and S. R. Page handle the mechanical end of the canning which consist of the boiler, sealer, seal-er, and cookers. Top five items canned during the past season were: 8,566 cans of tomatoes, 8 452 cans of corn, 5,775 cans of peaches. 4,120 cans honey, and 3,216 cans of pork and beans. Other foods canned this year included beef, orange juice, string beans, greens, chicken, apples, pears, fruit cocktail, carrots, beets, prunes, chili, pudding, vegetable soups, venison, chicken noodle soup, apricots, currents, squash and potatoes. Opened in June for early canning, can-ning, the canning plant operated until the end of October, at a total cost of $2,321. Owned and operated by the Roosevelt LDS Stake, the cannery has also been made available to 180 individuals living in Duchesne, Moon Lake and Uintah stakes, Mr. Bacon reported. People from Jensen' to Hanna made use of the cannery. |
