Show Union, Uintah Win By Heavy Scores; Fenn Outstanding Union and Uintah strengthened their No. 1 and 2 positions respectively, res-pectively, in the Uintah : Division Region Five, basketball race last Friday as they defeated Altamont and Tabiona in very convincing fashion. The Cougars beat Altamont Alta-mont 72-43 and the Utes handed little Tabby an 80-30 trouncing in Vernal. The near capacity crowd that jammed into the Union gym saw one of the most remarkable performances per-formances every turned in locally local-ly by a single basketball player, as forward Richard (Packy) Fenn scored 32 points to lead the Cougars Cou-gars in an impressive victory over ov-er the inexperienced Longhorns from Altamont The fact that Packy scored 32 points is not necessarily the main factor in his outstanding performance he accomplished ac-complished that fete while turning turn-ing in an almost unbelievable rustling and defensive game. His deception and smooth ball handling hand-ling stood out as convincingly as his uncanny shooting from the field as he sunk 15 goals and 2 out of 3 fouls. He was on the boards taking off rebounds; he was tailing in shots made by his team-mates; he was driving down the sides and down the middle making some of those impossible shots. And no time during the game did Packy miss a chance to pass off to a team-mate, whom he thought might be in a position to shoot. It has been suggested by critics of the game, that had the Cougars elected to feed the ball to their ace, he could have made 50 points as easily as he made 32 an opinion . shared by this writer. Coach Glen Allred clearly demonstrated dem-onstrated that he was not out to run up a scoring record as he freely substituted throughout the game with every player getting at least lO'minutes of play, each one came through with a fine performance. per-formance. Longhorns Have Promise Praising the Cougars for the strong game they played, is certainly cer-tainly in no way detracting from the fine ball club Coach Ken Bear-den Bear-den has developed at Altamont. A glance of his "B" kids and the fact that only two seniors, Max Brotherson and Dee Farnsworth, are on his team, certainly gives a lot of promise for the future, Then, too, they'll have a big gym to play in at home. Thus, the Longhorns will be tough, come next year. Brotherson, Oman and Hislop led in the scoring for the Longhorns. Eaton Hits For 23 Valoy Eaton. Uintah's bright star, led the Utes in their hioh scoring game with Tabiona. Ke collected a total of 23 points. 22 from the field and 1 from the foul line. Coach Grant Moser cleaned his bench, with every lad breaking into the scoring column. Ray Pace and Lane Josie were the top scorers for the smallest high school in Utah, as a green bunch of Tigers battled the ex- j perience of Uintah all the way. Tabby is very much in the same boat with Altamont their kids are all juniors, with no experience. exper-ience. Union's "B" team kept rolling on toward a championship as they won a 41-35 victory over Altamont, Alta-mont, who last week beat Uintah's I Papooses 37-25. They now lead with the same amount of victories as the Cougars, 4 and 0. Failure to get box scores of other "B" games in the division, makes it difficult to keep an accurate standing of the sophomore teams.
