Show , Bui In Uocational Funds Would Be Felt Locally If the present session of the state legislature would follow the recommendation of Governor J. Bracken Lee, offered in his recent message to the combined, houses, in which he would eliminate the Salt Lake and Utah count area vocational vo-cational schools and cut vocational vocation-al education as it pertains to travel, high schools in agricultural agricul-tural areas in Utah would suffer. The governor proposes 100 decrease de-crease in the three budgets. Nn doubt a battle will ensue if and when a resolution or bill is presented to eliminate the schools and take away travel expense ex-pense allowance for high school and young farmer training and instruction in-struction now carried on throughout through-out the state. The 1953 legislature legisla-ture appropriated $125,000 for vocational vo-cational education in high schools, etc.; and $285,000 for the two schools in Salt Lake and Utah counties. Requested this term is $172,351.89 for vocational education; educa-tion; $390,800 for Salt Lake, and $402,892 for Utah County schools. The governor says, "cut them off entirely." In 1952 the legislature appro- priated 100 of what was asked I (Continued On Back Page) VOCATIONAL FUNDS .... (Continued from Page 1) and in 1953, 88 was allowed. According to Sharon Cummings,,, vocational agricultural instructor at Union High, who was contacted relative to the proposition under consideration, elimination of the travel allowance in Utah would almost completely stop an expanding expand-ing program in this area. Instructors Instruc-tors would not be allowed to go onto the farms for specialized training and instruction; adult programs for all groups would be stopped; all state supervision of agricultural and industrial arts programs would be eliminated, and a great curtailment of. equipment would result. If parents of young Future Farmer are desirous of keeping keep-ing the outstanding program going go-ing in Utah, and others who are familiar with the program of vocational vo-cational training outside of the immediate im-mediate class room, they are urged to send their protests to their local lo-cal senator and representatives. |
