Show No More Surface Tanks In City, Council Decides An application by the Wasatch Was-atch Service Station, managed by Edwin Mitchell, to construct an above - the - ground gasoline storage tank on his property, which is located in the city limits, lim-its, was rejected by the mayor and city council at their regular semi-monthly meeting held last Monday at the city hall. According to George Hacking, city recorder, Mr. Mitchell appeared ap-peared on Sept. 25 before the council and requested he be permitted to erect the tank. At that time he was advised that a thorough study would be made and he would be notified of their action. It was the opinion opin-ion of the city council and their attorney that from a safety measure it would be unwise to permit more tanks to be erected above ground, and the only way this could be done was to begin be-gin now to regulate this practice. prac-tice. To further carry on the city's "safety of children" program that has received much consideration consid-eration of the mayor and city council, safety lines and lanes are being painted on streets leading to the schools. School patrols are aiding in educating children to use the sidewalks rather than the streets. The city officials approved the purchase of a loader for their patrol, which will be used to load dirt and snow when such a need arises. Mayor Homer Hom-er Edwards presided over the meeting. Next council meeting will be Monday, Oct. 23. |
