Show Two Union High Students Awarded Prizes Wednesday evening, Nov. 21, two Union High School seniors were guests of the Vernal Junior Jun-ior Chamber of Commerce at a banquet held at the Hotel Vernal. Ver-nal. The occasion was the awarding award-ing of prizes in the recently-completed "I Speak for Democracy" script reading contest, and a broadcast of the three winning scripts. Miss Lela Bartlett won second sec-ond place and Tom Rowley placed third, and they, along with Miss Renee Henderson, first place winner from Uintah High School, enjoyed the unique experience of re-reading their efforts for broadcast arid a live audience of Vernal Jaycees. First and second place winners Miss Henderson and Miss Bartlett, Bart-lett, were presented -with portable port-able radios and Mr. Rowley was awarded a : $25 U. S. Savings Bond. Mrs. Virgie Murphy, speech instructor at Union High School, and Larry Larsen, student, accompanied ac-companied Miss Bartlett and Mr. Rowley to the function-and were 1 also guests at the banquet. |
