Nelson, American Gilsonite Company engineer who helped develop de-velop a new use for the company's Gilsonite deposits at Bonanza, has been promoted to production manager, man-ager, it has been announced by E. F. Goodner, president. The new product, marketed under un-der the name Gilsulate, is the result re-sult of work done at the mine by Mr. Nelson and J. H. Baker, mine superintendent. A company hot pipe line was set up with powdered Gilsonite poured around it for insulation in-sulation purposes. The results were so encouraging, extensive tests were made, and present indications are that Gilsulate will become a major factor in the field of underground under-ground insulation. It is expected that when the product is more widely used, it will result in increased income for Utah and the Intermountain West. The Uinta Basin deposits are the world's sole commercial source of Gilsonite. Mr. Nelson; a graduate of Massachusetts Massa-chusetts Institute of Technology, came to American Gilsonite from Standard Oil of California, where he held a variety of supervisory positions. Announcement of hia promotion coincides with the statement that in the near future the company will handle its own sales of Gilsulate Gil-sulate as well as all other production. produc-tion. A. P. Dowler, former vice president of Cork Insulation Co., New York City, has been appointed sales manager. At present he is at the company's general office in Salt Lake City, but will soon set up headquarters in the New York area. In the past, domestic sales have been hand lea by American Bi-tumuls Bi-tumuls and Asphalt Co., a Standard of California subsidiary. Barber i Oil has been in charge of foreign sales. |
