Show Ellen Bracken Phone 62062 Eighth Grade Students Enjoy Salt Lake Trip Twenty-three eighth graders of the Alterra School went to Salt Lake City on an educational trip Thursday and Friday, May 12 and i 13 They were chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hemingway, Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Reed and Mrs, Thelma Iorg, Mrs. Norma Denver and Mrs. Barta Jenkins. On this trip they visited the following points of interest: Hogle Zoo, Bingham Copper Mine, Salt Lake Airport, Liberty Park, Wasatch Was-atch Springs. Memory Grove, State Capitol Salt Lake Tribune building build-ing Lion House, Temple Square and KTVT. Mrs. Carma Winterton, of Roosevelt, Roos-evelt, was a substitute teacher for Ronald Pabst at Alterra three days last week. Mr. Pabst was ill and went to Springville. Word has been received from Eureka, Calif, that Leonard Betts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Betts, was in a car wreck and he was suffering from injuries and his car was completely demolished. The beginner class in Primary had a Mother's Day party in Primary Pri-mary last Tuesday. The mothers were served refreshments and presented pre-sented with a plant.. Mrs. Stella Hatch is the teacher. Rex and Lloyd Parrish, of Rangely, were callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Parrish last Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Button and family, of Park City, were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stanley, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. David Lundberg went to Vernal last Monday on business. Mrs. Keith Snyder and family, of Altonah, spent last Monday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bingham.. Polio shots were given to some of the students at Alterra last Tuesday. JERRY NIELSON IS HOME FROM HOSPITAL Jerry Nielson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Nielson, who was seriously ser-iously injured in a car accident recently and taken to a hospital in Salt Lake City, was sufficiently recovered to be brought home, but will be confined there, going back for medical care. It is hoped that Jerry will be able to go to the graduation exercises at Union High School, as he is a senior. Mrs. Lola Christensen and Mrs. John L. Smith, of Vernal, were at Alterra on Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dean made a trip to Vernal last Tuesday Tues-day on business. TRIO BIRTHDAY DINNER GIVEN Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bingham, Mr. and Mrs.. Lawrence Brighton and Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Halver-son Halver-son were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bingham on Mother's Day, where they all enjoyed a delicious turkey tur-key dinner. The occasion was Mother's Day, besides the birthday birth-day of Mrs. Halverson, Mrs. Brighton and Lynn Bingham. Primary monthly preparation meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Norma O'Neil Wednesday evening, May 11, with fifteen officers of-ficers arid teachers present. Refreshments Re-freshments were served by Nita White and Norma O'Neil. Thomas Shisler was brought home from the hospital at Vernal last Thursday, feeling very much improved. Howard Dean, who has been acting as custodian at Alterra School, has been appointed by the school board to continue his duties as custodian for the next year. Quite a group of Relief Society ladies met at 10:30 last Tuesday morning to quilt. A quilt was done for Mrs.. Thomas Jeppson. a pot-luck pot-luck lunch was enjoyed at noon. Roosevelt stake conference will be held in Roosevelt on Sunday, May 22, and no Sunday School or meetings will be held at Ballard. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Belcher and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Howard, of Vernal, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ercil Johnson on Sunday, May 8. Owen Asay, who has been here on a furlough left on Sunday for his base at San Diego, not knowing know-ing where he is to be stationed now. He just returned from oversea over-sea duties. His wife is the former LaRue Grove and will remain here until he receives information on where he will be stationed. Ballard priesthood members were well represented at stake priesthood meeting on Sunday. LARKS ENTERTAIN MOTHERS MAY 10 Tuesday, May 10 the Lark class teacher in Primary, Verda ' Rasmussen, Rasmus-sen, had a party for their mothers. The purpose was to show the mothers what they learn to do. Refreshments Re-freshments were served. There was a large number of mothers nrpspnt Mr. and Mrs. Gene Olsen, from Magna, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Olsen, of Nephi, were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Squire last Monday. Mrs. Gene Olsen is a sister of Mrs. Squire. They also visited in Neola with John Olsen, who is a brother of Andrew Olsen. Mr. and Mrs. Max Todd and small son went to Measer on Mother's Day to visit with Mrs. Todd's parents, Mr., and Mrs. Rex Gardner. Alden White had the misfortune to be crushed against the barn by a cow while milking last Friday. Two of his ribs were broken. RODEO IS SUCCESS I The rodeo held last Thursday evening near Roosevelt, by Ballard Bal-lard and Roosevelt 3rd ward was considered a good success. It was i stated each ward netted about $300.00. Much credit is due Cecil Jenkins and his helpers. Some twenty-four members of Ballard priesthood enjoyed the Aaronic priesthood outing in Uinta Canyon on Saturday. The toys were accompanied by Eric Stolla, Earl Winn, John Page, Jesse Hullinger Hul-linger and the bishopric, Golden Collins, Orlan Cook and Ned Gines. All report they had a good time. Mr. and Mrs. Art Norton and daughter, of Salt Lake City, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Von Haslem on Sunday.. Mrs. Sarah Norton of Lapoint was a guest also. Mrs. Cecil Jenkins took a car load of the 8th grade students at Alterra to Salt Lake on their two- day trip. She said all who went had a good time. BUS MISHAP PREVENTS SALT LAKE TRIP On Saturday a group of twenty-seven twenty-seven women, mostly school cooks of Uintah County, started on a trip, intending to visit various places of interest in and around Salt Lake City and having one day of pleasure. When nearing the Red Creek country a wheel came off of the school bus, but due to the quick action of the bus driver, Davis Merkley of Vernal, the bus was stopped while the wheel went sailing on. Fortunately not one person was injured in any way. A phone call had to be made to Vernal Ver-nal and at 10:30 a school bus arrived. ar-rived. By then it was too late to go on, so with thankful hearts we returned home. All three women from the Alterra kitchen were on the bus, Agnes Walker, Reva Hall and Ellen Bracken. Mr. and Mrs. Less Mullins, Mrs. Floyd Bryce and Miss Shanna Bel-Ion, Bel-Ion, all of Salt Lake City, were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Xavier Bellon over the weekend. week-end. Shanna remained at home for the present. Mr., and Mrs. Von Haslem went to Vernal Saturday evening and visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Southam. Mr. South-am South-am is 89 years old, but is still able to take care of his homework. |
