Show Support Assures Success Of Roosevelt Liids' Bay Project Program Of Sports, Parade, Free Show, Treats Await Kids Saturday Morning Next Saturday, Sept. 23, kids in approximately 3150 cities and towns in the United States, Canada, Can-ada, Alaska and Hawaii, will have their day as Kiwanis club members honor their youth on the second annual "National Kids' Day." Founded in 1948 by James M. (Jimmie) Fiddler, Hollywood Holly-wood columnist and radio commentator, com-mentator, and a group of Hollywood Holly-wood business and professional men, National Kids' Day was designed to aid the youngster who was not privileged to enjoy en-joy the opportunities the more fortunate had. The first observance obser-vance was Oct. 22, 1949, when about 1500 clubs sponsored activities ac-tivities in behalf of their town's kids. In Roosevelt where a Kiwanis club was chartered on June 24, 1950, a big day is in the offing for kids of this area. A committee commit-tee headed by Howard Harm-ston Harm-ston as its chairman, have a full day on docket for the youngsters. young-sters. He is being assisted by Darrel Walker, club president, Elmer "Bumps" Eldredge, Parley Par-ley Rawlings, and John H. Blaine, elementary school principal. prin-cipal. The day's activities will begin be-gin at 9:30 a. m. when all kids of elementary school level and pre-school youngsters will assemble as-semble at the school grounds where they will be formed into a parade. Every kid who haa a bicycle, tricycle, or wagon is urged to decorate it and ride or pull it in the parade. A prize for the best decorated toy will be offered by the committee. Following the parade all kids will meet at the city park for races, games and free treats between 10:30 and 12 noon. At 1 p. m. a free picture show is being offered for all youngsters under 12 years, which includes those of pre-school age. According to Mr. Harmston,-the Harmston,-the free show is made possible by Howard Harrison, manager of the Roosevelt and Uinta theatres. the-atres. Those donating free treats include Sprouse - Reitz, gum; Safeway, candy bars; Lar-. son Bottling Co., bottles of pop; Costuros, prizes for races and games. . The main object of the Saturday Satur-day celebration for the kids of Roosevelt is to secure play-: ground equipment to be set up on the elementary school grounds. The Kiwanis committee commit-tee conceived a program to raise money for this project, and practically every business con-' cern in the city purchased advertising ad-vertising space in a special 4-: page supplement to the Standard Stand-ard , which is serving this week--as its cover. All profits above printing will go into the fund,' which has been ably supplemented supple-mented by financial support, from civic and service organic zations in Roosevelt. Their names will be listed next week.; On page one of the special Kids' Day cover will be found a complete program of the day's events, and statements from-committee from-committee and Kiwanis mem-' bers, plus a proclamation from. Mayor Homer P. Edwards in which he calls on all of Roosevelt Roose-velt to support the program sponsored by Kiwanis. |
