Show EDITORIAL: Why Hot A Chamber Of Commerce? Roosevelt is growing, spontaneously. spon-taneously. For a person" who has been here only a short time, it is difficult to conceive just how fast. This town, along with the entire Uintah Basin, is booming. If Roosevelt has grown as much as it has, spontaneously, in the last four or five years, isn't it likely the town will grow even faster if some encouragement en-couragement and advertising are given to its development? Why not a Chamber of Commerce? The Lions club, Jaycees, and other groups are doing- an excellent ex-cellent job of boosting the town, but results would accrue immediately im-mediately if Roosevelt had a body of citizen's, dedicated to its growth, and ready to tell the world about the town and its resources. Radio is full of jokes about the nation's chambers of commerce, com-merce, how they are composed of experts in the "fine art of prevarication." For instance, Miami's Mi-ami's Chamber of Commerce would never admit having had days when the thermometer dipped dip-ped below freezing actually the town has had very few. Naturally, a chamber of commerce com-merce never says anything bad about its city, and why should it? The purpose is to boost the town, not tear it down. During the summer Roosevelt Roos-evelt gets a great deal of tourist tour-ist trade, but an organized campaign cam-paign might result in more tourists tour-ists realizing the town was on the map; and we could catch people in addition to those just passing through. Chances are a lot of business men wouldn't mind knowing the Basin is booming, so they could share in the fruits of de-' velopment. And every new business busi-ness here means that much more money in circulation. It is to be hoped that many citizens listed a local Chamber of Commerce among their New Year's resolutions. If so, the city will profit by one "kept" resolution. GWH |
