Show Former My ton Woman Wins Hair Style Honor An item of interest appeared in a San Francisco, Calif, paper recently as follows: "A diminutive Japanese -American mother of 4 children, yesterday won first prize in the last of eight preliminary contests con-tests to select California's representative rep-resentative to the national hair stylists competition, to be held in Miami, next month. Mrs. Mary Kawakima, 37, who holds a California hair dresser's license, li-cense, although she lives in American Fork, Utah, was the unanimous selection of the judges. The contest was held at the Fairmont Hotel. "Her model, 23-year-old Mrs. Dorothy Meranda, also' of American Amer-ican Fork, won over 18 contestants contest-ants with a hair-do featuring a soft around-the-face flair in a new mauve shade." Mrs. Meranda is the wife of Stephen Meranda, a former My-ton My-ton resident, and the daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meranda, who are regular My-ton My-ton visitors, to care for their ranch property on the outskirts of town. Mrs. Meranda has frequently fre-quently visited here and her many friends are very pleased to hear of the nice honor extended ex-tended to her. Visitors Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emery Nielso. were Mr. and Mrs. Silas Ross, of Castle Gate, and Mrs. Ora Holgate, of Arcadia. Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Holgate are sisters of Mr. Nielson. They found Mrs. Nielson steadily improving from her recent operation for a fractured frac-tured hip. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Krebs, Jr. and small daughter, of Salt Lake City, were visitors Sunday Sun-day at the home of Mrs. Krebs' parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Crapo. Mrs. Garland Reed and family fam-ily left Wednesday to join Mr. Reed at Tremonton, Utah where they will make their home. Mr. Reed is employed there. |
