Show Opening Court Sessions In flew Room Highlighted By An Address From Judge Xim Stanley Dunf ord When the new courtroom in Duchesne County's newly built and dedicated courthouse was opened for use, Judge Stanley Dunford was inspired to make the following speech, which was taken down in shorthand, and because it played such a part in the, opening day's activities in the Fourth Judicial Court, it is being printed. Contrasting photos of the old and new courtrooms will be found accompanying ac-companying Judge Dunford's address which was made on May 17, 1954: This being the first session of court to be held in the new courthouse, the Court (Judg Wm. Stanley Dunford) made the following statement: If I were a poet or a statesman, states-man, I'd like to say something that might be fitting to the feeling of appreciation that I have in meeting in this wonderful wonder-ful building, and this wonderful courtroom this morning. I personally have been serving ser-ving in this District as District Attorney, and as District Judge for more than 20 years, and we have put up with a lot of handicaps han-dicaps in our court administration, administra-tion, and I am sure that you folks, members' of the jury, counsel, parties, witnesses, have as deep appreciation this morning for this delightful environment en-vironment as I have. My hope is that our part of the government govern-ment administration will be as much improved by this fine setting set-ting that we now have for the administration of our duties as this courtroom is an improvement improve-ment over that which we have endured for these great many years. I am sure that you folks who are taxpayers, feel a high sense of pride in being here, feeling that your government is administered from a building that would do credit to any county, in any state, in the United States. This courtroom is a magnificient thing. It is constructed on the most scientific scien-tific principles. No longer are we going to be distressed with loud, squeaky floors, and as soon as we get the furniture completed, we will not de dis- stressed anymore with squeaking squeak-ing and clanging and banging furniture. No' longer will we have the reporter calling for repetitions in the answers of witnesses. No longer will it be necessary for us to call order because of the contribution to disorder made by our environment. And I'm sure that this makes a point in the program of this county, and of this city and of this state, that is significant. I hadn't any idea that the honor might come to us to open op-en the first term of court in this courthouse, but I think that we shall make a permanent record in the minutes of the Court of the fact that on this day our first session of court was held here, because I think it is historical and I think it is significant. The Duchesne Health Center officers are selling tickets to raise money to complete the building in the background. It will be a small hospital unit for ihe Duchesne Du-chesne area.
