In the spring of 1919, amidst complete devastation, ihe poppies bloomed in abundance on the battlefields battle-fields of France, where so many of our men had ian ln battle, and that a replica of this poppy has become the Memorial Mem-orial Flower of ihe American Legion and the American i Legion Auxiliary. And, ' WHEREAS, The American Legion and Auxiliary being the first to adopi the Poppy as its Memorial Flower, will appear upon the streets throughout the nation next i Saturday, io sell the Poppy, ihe revenue of which is to be used entirely in Lie rehab.lilarion program of the Ameri-I Ameri-I can Legion ard Auxiliary, which is designed to aid and i benefit those vho siill are confined in hospitals as results of the major world wars that have been fought to stabilize I humanity. i . NOW THEREFORE, I, Homer P. Edwards. Mayor of the City cf Roosevelt, do hereby proclaim Saturday, May 26, 1951 as National Poppy Day in this city, and urge all men, women and children to buy and wear a poppy in memory . of those who died that free men might live.
