Show YoFChHd By Claud C. Ruch Seven - year - old Danny was caught stealing from his mother's moth-er's purse. Mother was heartbroken. heart-broken. Could it be that the boy was dishonest? Would he evolve from pennies to bigger thefts? Father, when he learned of the wrong doing, was of the opinion that Danny should be deprived of going to the show and of candy, with maybe a pantswarming thrown in for good measure. However, these parents, when the shock and heat of angr had subsided, began to think more calmly. Why did Danny want that money? Would punishment solve the problem if Danny had what seemed to him a good reason for taking the money? It developed that Danny was very much upset by the commotion com-motion which h i s "stealing" had caused. At that time he was in the second grade in a new school. His tearful confession confes-sion revealed his desperate desire de-sire to establish himself as a "regular guy" in order to make friends. It seemed to him the best way to get friends was to treat the other boys to candy. Danny's parents realized that the boy's dilemma was to a great extent their fault. They should have realized that the boy had a readjustment problem prob-lem and given him advice. Because Be-cause Danny had no help from his parents, he worked out his own solution. The solution to Danny's problems prob-lems was not difficult. The mother and father carefully explained ex-plained that there were better ways to win recognition. Danny Dan-ny was invited to bring boys to his house, where a cheerful welcome and a cookie were offered. of-fered. Some packing cases in the yard (a result of the recent move) made fine huts and this gave Danny's standing quite a boost. Father contributed b y playing catch with Danny after school. Before long the bgy had a fine throwing arm and soon becamg first Cftoiee when team were chosen at school. He was alae given twenty cents to spend as an allowance. Twenty Twen-ty cents won't buy popularity, but it will help you to hold your own. But most Important of all Danny learned that when he was troubled about something, he could talk it over with Dad and Mom. As a result of the thoughtful manner in which the matter was handled, a rather ugly situation turned into a valuable Jesson for both the bov ap. hi parents. |
