Rogers, Rog-ers, of Upalco, will represent Roosevelt High- School in the Pioneer Sweetheart contest at Ogden, to be held June 27 and June 28. Selected for the contest by her own classmates on the basis of personality, scholarship and horsemanship, Miss Rogers wi'l compete for the title with girls representing 29 high schools in Utah. The ceremony was solemnized in the Salt Lake L D S Temple on June 25. 10 Years Ago ' Stewart Leslie Ashton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rae Ashton, ; of Vernal, was listed among tho ' intermountain students to grad-! grad-! uate from Stanford University at Palo Alto, California, this spring. Miss Margaret Ferron, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Ferron, of Roosevelt, graduated this year from East High School in Salt L ake City. Miss Ferron will spend the summer here with her parents. William Whitaker, with his wife and son, returned to Roosevelt Roos-evelt recently after having completed com-pleted his assignment to assist army personnel in effecting tha orderly evacuation of Japane2 Nationals from the Pacific area. Mr. and Mrs. Halen Whit-beck, Whit-beck, formerly of Vernal, now of Colorado, are guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dillman. Mrs. Dillman and Mrs. Whitbeck are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. E. Dee Orser and son, Bobby, of San Francisco, Fran-cisco, came in Sunday to visit at the Orser home for two weeks. I 20 Years Ago ' Tuesday, June 21, was "Field ! Inspection Day" at the Uintah Basin alfalfa seed experimental farm which is located on the Victory Highway near Ft. Duchesne Du-chesne and only seven miles from Roosevelt. Dr. R. J. Evans and John W. Carlson, superintendent of the farm, conducted large groups of Uintah Basin citizens over the farm Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Axel Birch and daughter, Carol, returned Monday Mon-day from a ten-day trip to Canada, Can-ada, Watterton Lakes, and returned re-turned by way of Yellowstone Park. The Neola Boy Scouts are building a Scout lodge which they hope to have completed very soon. The Scouts, with their scoutmaster, Kenneth All-red, All-red, spent five days last week on Pole Creek getting out the logs, and this week are making a trip to the saw mill for lumber lum-ber for the roof. Wednesday evening, June 15, the piano and vocal students of Mrs. Orville A. Dart, of Myton, gave a recital at the Presbyterian Presbyter-ian Churcti. |
