Show LDS Church Has ilew Apostle And Presiding Bishop LeGrand Richards, for fourteen four-teen years presiding bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was sustained as. a member of the Council of L'welve Apostles at the closing session of the 122nd annual conference con-ference Sunday afternoon in the Tabernacle. He fills the vacancy caused by the death, Feb. 3, 1952, of Dr. Joseph F. Merrill. Joseph L. Wirthlin, who served as first counselor to Mr. Richards was elevated to' the position of presiding bishop. Thorpe B. Isaacson, . formerly second counselor, was sustained as first counselor. Carl W. Buehner, Salt Lake businessman and a former ward bishop and stake president, became be-came a new member of the general gen-eral authorities as he was sustained sus-tained second counselor.
