Party Organized . . Progressive Party Nominates Mayor & Council Candidates George Stewart, city attorney for a number of years, last Friday Fri-day was nominated by the Progressive Pro-gressive Party to head their ticket as a candidate for mayor during the coming campaign in Roosevelt City. Meeting in their regular nominating nom-inating convention, the independent indepen-dent group of citizens selected as council candidates, Floyd R. Peterson and Clem Labrum. All offices are for four years. Mr. ' Peterson is distributor for the Royal Baking Co., and operates a wholesale business for various food products throughout the Uintah Basin. His running mate, Mr. Labrum, is distributor for the Continental Oil Co. for the Roosevelt area. In addition to selecting three candidates to head their ticket, the Progressive selected Robert Ferron as chairman, Mrs. Johnny John-ny Cook, secretary, and Kenneth Ken-neth Labrum as campaign manager. man-ager. V. S. (Bill) Nelson is the retiring chairman. Retiring from the city council coun-cil at the end of this year will be Mayor J. V. McLea, who was appointed early in 1952 to fill the unexpired term of the late Homer P. Edwards; Paul ' Murphy and Bennie Schmiett as councilmen. Neither is a candidate can-didate for re-election. An active campaign is being planned on behalf of their nominees nom-inees by the members of the Progressive Party, is an announcement an-nouncement made by Chairman Ferron. |
